Subject: What to wear, now?

Dear Ms. Happy,
I'm invited to a big semi-formal evening wedding on April 22nd. What is the appropriate guest attire for a female for this time of the year? Can I wear an "After 5" cocktail dress? If so, in what color? Apparently no one else will be in long gowns. Do I go with a Spring look or will a simple little black dress do with nice black evening sandals and an updo? Oh help. Thanks! Lourdes Cochran

Dear Lourdes,
I would tend to do a lively, spring-ey cocktail dress - and bring a dressy lil' cardigan or shawl if you're in a still chilly zone. Black is "OK" - but it's just not "as fresh" for spring as a good shot of color can be - and in a sea of black dresses it doesn't lend as well to self expression. Wear whatever color you feel the most like Lourdes in. Sandals (comfy enough to dance in), tinted or textured hose. Accessorize with a simple updo and a big smile.

As Always,
Ms. Happy

Subject: Re: marine wedding

Dear life saver,
My brother is having a wedding and we went shopping for dresses yesterday. My hair is shoulder length and I don't know what to do with it. I'm going to be a brides maid or train carrier and I don't know want to be worried about my hair on his big day. I'm afraid of being too girly because my brother is a marine. Please help! Shorty

Dear Shorty Girl,
Not only is shoulder length hair perfect, but you ARE a girl. The groom's the marine. Know it's OK to look like one (a girl). Be yourself (the best sister you can be) and you'll be fine. If you feel strange about wearing it down - talk to the bride about tying it back with a ribbon that matches the dress.
Smile lots and have fun!

Ms. Happy
